Background - 2010 show

The first HRAA Flower and Produce Show took place on 11th September 2010 in the Corn Exchange. Perhaps more importantly, this was a return to holding a show in St Ives in the newly refurbished Corn Exchange, after a break of 15 years.

The show was planned by a crack team of volunteers, a sub group of the HRAA committee working very hard from the end of July until the day of the show. We approached the day with some trepidation as we really had no idea how many entries there would be, or how many people would turn up. In the event, the day was a great success and was also great fun !

The hard work started on Friday evening, presented with an empty Corn Exchange... if you want to see how events unfolded, please follow the link here to Flickr.

Images of the day

The show was opened by the deputy mayor of St Ives, Martin Collier who can be seen here with the Town Crier, members of the HRAA committee and local Councillors.

Cutting the ribbon to formally open the show once judging was completed; From left to right, Richard Weightman, Chair of HRAA, Vice Mayor and Mayoress, and Councillors Ian Dobson and Brian Luter of the Town Council's Amenities Committee.

The Holmes Trophy for 'Best in Show 2010' was awarded to Mrs H Weightman by Councillors Ian Dobson and Brian Luter. The Inscription reads on the Trophy reads: "Presented in appreciation of the late Alderman E. G. Holmes Flower Show President 1944-1958" and is our link with the historic shows in St Ives.

The other winners of the individual Sections were: Charlie Stocker (Vegetable Section), Christine Dutton (Flowers and Plants), Melvin Morton (Home-made cakes, Produce and Preserves), Miss Larissa MacRae (Childrens), Jude Ongeri (Fruit), Mark Bottoms (Wine), Robin Bletsoe (Photography).
